MICROCOMPUTER BUSINESS SYSTEMS

Getting a Certificate or Diploma in Microcomputer Business Systems will prepare students for careers in the business/corporate setting. This program provides students with a complete knowledge of basic business applications. Upon completion, students will be well versed in Microsoft Office Applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. In addition, students will gain expertise in the areas of database management, keyboarding, desktop publishing, and accounting. These skills combined provide the foundation needed to succeed in today's rapidly changing business world. By earning the diploma, Microcomputer Business students can proceed to earning their Associates Degree.

• ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED SCIENCE DEGREE
The College’s most advanced degree can be earned in two quarters beyond the diploma program during the day. The A.A.S. program addresses the following requirements for professional advancement: effective communication and computation skills, knowledge of his or her role within an organization, and possessing clear career goals. Credit system is based on a 50 minute class hour. Each credit for a lecture course is equivalent to a minimum of 10 hours in class. Each credit for a lab course is equivalent to a minimum of 20 hours in class. Some classes combine lecture and lab hours.

• DIPLOMA
This program provides students with a range of technical skills supported by the fundamentals of academic skills. The program includes most of the hands-on courses required for the A.A.S. degree without the advanced technical skill development or the advanced general education classes. Students who complete the diploma program have the option to continue their studies for the A.A.S. degree. All the credits earned for the diploma are applicable toward the college’s Associate of Applied Science degree.

• CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT
The Microcomputer Business Systems certificate program requires a minimum of 30 weeks of full-time study or three quarters of course work. It prepares individuals for entry-level work with a broad range of hands-on courses in typing, computing, data entry and accounting, and a substantial review of English and math basics. Students who complete the certificate have a foundation to continue their studies at the diploma level or to seek entry-level employment.



Microcomputer Business Systems Associate of Applied Science Degree
(94 credit hours)

After completing the diploma sequence, students may extend their academic and job- training experience by earning an associate degree in two additional quarters during the day. Courses include business organization, accounting, and hands-on computer training and programming using current software packages.

To receive Associate of Applied Science degree in Microcomputer Business Systems, a student must successfully complete (D or better) 94 credit hours of the core and general education curricula and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better.

For clarity, all courses for the entire Associate of Applied Science Degree in Microcomputer Business Systems are listed above. This includes all courses for the Diploma program, which is completed first. After this, the student completes two additional quarters of courses to earn the Associate of Applied Science Degree.

 

Microcomputer Business Systems Diploma
(55 credit hours)

Students who successfully complete the diploma program may qualify for entry-level positions in financial or business information system industries. With extensive hands-on practice throughout the sequence, students learn to manipulate complex software packages as well as study business organization and accounting.

To receive a Diploma in Microcomputer Business Systems, a student must successfully complete (D or better) 55 credit hours of the core and general education curricula and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better.

 

Microcomputer Business Systems Certificate of Achievement
(39 credit hours)

Earning the certificate in Microcomputer Business Systems takes only three quarters. This short sequence offers students a broad foundation of skills for entry-level employment in a computer-based office setting. It also provides students with the courses required to continue their studies and earn the Microcomputer Business Systems diploma.

To receive a Certificate of Achievement in Microcomputer Business Systems, a student must successfully complete (D or better) 39 credit hours of the core and the general education curricula and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better.
